The Cornell Degree

The Value of a Cornell Degree

Cornell’s soul is its constellation of undergraduate colleges. Each nourishes not only its own students but students from across the university as well. No matter what college students enroll in, they have access to Cornell’s entire selection of academic offerings, providing unparalleled opportunities to develop one’s own balance between theory and the scientific or practical application of knowledge. Students at Cornell chart their own path.

That’s a big promise to uphold, but it has served as Cornell’s guiding principle for more than 140 years. The result? Seven colleges, 4,000 courses, and nearly 100 departments and major fields of study. The evolution of this rich academic mix has been—and will continue to be—shaped by the needs of the world. It’s a journey that will become only more exciting.

Each of Cornell’s seven undergraduate colleges is among the best, if not the best, of its kind. Students apply to one of the seven. Each college defines its own academic programs, admits its own students, provides faculty advising and support, and confers its own degrees, although all degrees are attributed to Cornell University.
